"#Nationalism" is not patriotism. It is not pride in one's country, it is not belief in your ideals, it is not wanting what is best for your country. It is not the antonym of "#Globalism". Be aware of its true meaning. 1/
The #Nationalist believes in the inherent superiority of their tribe. That could be simply everyone born under a certain flag or king, but Nationalists are often quick to say that "certain" people who look, pray, or believe differently aren't "real" citizens of their nation. 2/
Since #Nationalism believes "goodness" and "right" are inherent to a tribal identity, it has been used since the days of Napoleon to justify conquest and oppression, even on the race occasions it hasn't been deeply intertwined with racial tribalism. 3/
Since #Nationalism believes identity and quality are inherent rather than learned, it also demands blind obedience to the tribal leader. As long as they are attacking the "other", they can do no wrong. This is an essential difference between Nationalism and Patriotism. 4/
So do not confuse the two. #Nationalism is devoid of ideals, it is devoid of morality and ethics, it is devoid of the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. It is an ideology that only defines "us" and "them", where "we" can do no wrong, and "they" can do no right. 5/
It is an ideology of conflict and brutality. The #Nationalist may try to deceive you, try to persuade you that all they want is isolationism, all they want is to protect the interests of the nation-state. Do not be fooled. The end-point is much darker. Remember: 6/
The #Nationalist thrives on demonization of out-groups. Of an "other". Even if you were born here, if you know no other citizenship or identity, even if the Nationalist welcomes you now - beware. There is nothing preventing them from saying you're not a "real" American. 7/
They may choose your faith, your politics, your sexuality, the color of your skin, or the country your ancestors came from. But the #nationalist will choose one, and say you don't belong. YOU are the enemy within. YOU are the cause of all our ills. YOU must be destroyed. 8/
Do you understand the difference, now? Patriotism is a belief in, and service to, the shared ideals of the nation-state. Nationalism is belief in the inherent superiority and primacy of one's identity, and demands fear and hatred of all others. Don't be a nationalist. 9/9.
