big fan of all the people in videogame journalism who've never worked an entry level job and are just finding out now that bosses skirt labor laws to make you work OT and not pay you
"I'm hearing from a lot of people that their bosses asked for OT but it wasn't really a request"
<everyone who has worked retail, staring>
huge scoop here: if you refuse to do something that violates OSHA, your boss might fire you for "performance issues" that somehow never came up before despite your shining performance review last week
don't look now game reporters but i hear some bosses will require employees to do work off the clock. we gotta get on this this is huge
like, not that it's bad for more people to learn how weak and useless labor laws and stated rules and policies are, but the tone of a lot of this makes it sound so exceptional
huge love to game devs. nobody should have to deal with the shit they deal with. also, bosses are just like this, and I feel the issue has been reported on irresponsibly. videogame crunch is from the fucking eighties. I literally don't understand why it's news.
this is... how it's been done, for decades. for centuries. how can you not know that this is what Bosses are? idfgi. it's wrong, report on it, get mad, tell people to unionize but like. at least *mention* that this is not new.
