At some point, we really have to force-shutdown Nigeria. The type where you hold the power button down until the system shuts down. Then we uninstall all our current Apps & reinstall new ones 1 by 1. Every single National App is malfunctional. We can't continue like this.
Which sector will you actually say is working? Irrespective of the class you belong to, malfunction stares you in the face in all facets. Do we just bumble along hoping for a correction at some point? Reforms are even hot-wired to fail because of faulty foundations.
From infrastructure to health, education to banking, petroleum regime, ingrained corruption to government generally, everything is set up disfunctionally. We have gotten too used to disfunction. We cannot continue like this & aspire to any form of greatness anytime soon.
And no, this is not about politics. It is not about APC, PDP or 10th Force or even fence. Whichever divide we belong to, we are all victims of systemic malfunction. Nobody is exempt. We all meet at the same market.
Ask most international travellers. If they bother to answer the question, the 1st thing you notice upon arrival at any foreign country is order & working systems. Do you honestly get a sense of order when you come into Nigeria? For how long now? Haba.
This thread was triggered by a tweet I just saw about the guy who was overcharged for Visa on arrival & when he asked questions, the official simply asked him if he wants to go back & screamed neext. We can build Dubai style airports but what are we doing about our officials?
Trust me, a superior was watching close by aloof. Even if not, we have CCTV to curb this but it is done brazenly. When was the last time you paid the official fee for any government service? How many new IGPs have banned road blocks & attendant Roger? Have they stopped?
I don't know about you all but these things keep me awake at night. I am one of those that truly love this country & intend to live here for as long as is sanely permissible so hightailing it is conflict-avoidance & definitely not the solution. So which way Nigeria?
