I have just read another ambiguity of a circular sent out by the commissioner of @PoliceNG in @PoliceNGLagos mandating the deployment of Police officers to areas in Lagos with huge traffic congestion. With this open ended mandate, the road blocks will return. @PoliceNG_PCRRU
Attempts to speak with the State PPRO proved abortive and I was told that he is preparing for a press conference on the clarification on the Operation Order No 164/2018- Operation Velvet, ‘designed to restore sanity on Lagos Roads - by clearing congestion/Checking particulars’ 🙄
This communique of October 25, 2018 is one of the most ill-conceived I’ve ever read in Lagos since its creation as a state. With the gross break down of law and order in Lagos by gangs cum the impunity of police, this is the priority of the Police leadership in Lagos?
I hope Distinguished ACP @YomiShogunle can see clearly the justification for our petition now. Road blocks have been surreptitiously legalized in Lagos and police impunity and extortion will rise with this direct instruction. We will hold the Police liable for any infringement.
I really don’t know how you clear congestion by ordering stop and search on this scale with the torrential complaints about Police extortion and impunity in Lagos State in particular. Where is the Governor by the way? @AkinwunmiAmbode
We implore that the public cooperate with the police officers following their leader’s instruction. Don’t set out without your valid papers and particulars and endeavor to report any attempt at incrimination or infringement on your fundamental human rights. 
Note also that the order does not mandate Police to demand for paper in traffic congested areas of Lagos but demands that they help make the traffic flow and ask for papers without obstructing traffic or endangering citizens under reasonable suspicion. Don’t bribe them. Report!
The operation as learnt is a joint one with FRSC et al. Stay vigilante and cooperate while taking note of infringement of your fundamental rights. We are a Call away. We will begin taking data of abuses on this ambiguity. We know who to hold accountable.

I expected a clarification at the press briefing but none came. It was clearly an order to extort as the policemen on the street will fill in the gaps and tell you categorically they are following orders from above. The Lagos House of Assembly will receive a visitor on this.
