I wrote this thread earlier this morning while in Germany. I have no idea if the facts have changed (I've not been on social media all day and the connection now is weak) but hopefully some will find it helpful. 1/n
1st major point: Last night, Trumpism lost its total control over the elected branches of the federal government. 
2nd major point: Keep your eyes on the states. That is where in 1978 a lot of the action was.
3rd major point: If Gerstle is right that "nothing indicates the power of a political order more than its ability to shape the thinking of its opponents," it's clear that compared to Reagan or Bush, who reshaped their opponents' agenda, the political order of Trumpism is weaker.
All signs point not to the consolidation or creation of a new political order, a la Gerstle, but to the breakdown of the existing one. It's a long struggle to define what comes out of that.
