Last night an @NPR reporter was saying that McCain would find humor in the Vietnamese referring to US bomber pilots as 'pirates." It was a common term, and deadly accurate. This is a replica of a US plane from the war, made from the metal of an actual shot-down aircraft.
This was given to my late father by a young South Vietnamese student taking my dad's class on Vietnam at a Tokyo university. I sat in on the class (1967 - I was in HS) & got to know the student. I suspect he was sent to study in Japan by the NLF. The plane now sits on my desk.
In this context, it's interesting to see the very conciliatory statement from Vietnam's ambassador to the US on McCain and his "very special position in the history of the Viet Nam." Maybe we can learn something from their willingness to forgive. vietnamembassy-usa.org/news/2018/08/s…
