The best explanation of how Bitcoin, FB, YouTube, etc., has made us less equal and less happy was written 45 years ago by the activist and scholar Jo Freeman. My tribute to “Tyranny of Structurelessness,” incl. @random_walker, @makoshark, @astradisastra. wired.com/story/silicon-…
To Freeman's point, Zuckerberg said yesterday: “A lot of my philosophy here for building our services is expressed in the first words of our mission -- give people the power. Because I believe that the world is better when more people have a voice to share their experiences ...
"... and when traditional gatekeepers don't control what ideas can be expressed.” Harsh to say, but FB structureless formula hasn't made the world better, it has made the world worse. Without reliable, fair structures the people have less power, not more. As Freeman predicted.
