1) @UKLabour members - honesty, democracy & the future of the Labour project

In all of this #Brexit mess it needs to be said that there are 2 key fracture points in the Labour Leadership, it is dishonest, and from a party point of view deeply undemocratic

This will undermine it
@UKLabour 2) the current Labour Leadership position is to have a GE in order to negotiate a "better brexit deal"
There is no time for this. We leave in a few months. What's more the EU will not extend A50 so 2 pro Brexit parties can have a GE with the same essential message.
@UKLabour 3) Starmer, McDonnell, Thornberry and others all know this. They know that the EU will not delay A50 and restart negotiations at this stage, especially with a new set of "red lines" around influence & FoM

When they say "this is our position" they say it knowing it's not possible
@UKLabour 4) secondly, the Labour party is overwhelmingly remain & 150 CLPs put in a heroic effort to get #PeoplesVote in party policy. Labour does not want #Brexit, but you would never know it listening to the leadership, who only focus on a fantasy "better #brexit"

This is undemocratic
@UKLabour 5) you can make the arguments over losing northern seats, always a poor "party before country" position but now shown for months to be invalid.

theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
@UKLabour 6) you can make the argument about "respecting the result", but Labour is an activist movement. It has fought for decades to move the window, to change opinion.

And Brexit voters do not really share the values of Labour
@UKLabour 7) but here is the key point. The Labour Leadership position is dishonest, and does not reflect the position of the members or even the public

It reflects the position of Corbyn and a few others, making a mockery of his "I will listen to the members" promises

It's undemocratic
@UKLabour 8) blind faith, "pragmatism", loyalty to Corbyn do not change these basic points - the Labour Leadership is saying things it knows cannot be true, playing a game that does not serve the country, and is at odds with the membership it serves
@UKLabour 9) therefore what of Austerity, the NHS, social mobility, equal opportunity & all the other issues so important to Labour voters & members? The things that Corbyn promised to change, the things *after* Brexit?

You cannot build a house on a rotten foundation
@UKLabour 10) you cannot build something good when it is based on a web of deceit, dictatorship, authoritarianism, fixed ideology & cynical "party before country" game playing.

Good intentions are not enough
@UKLabour 11) dictators often don't start out meaning to be dictators. They compromise themselves & democracy "for the greater good"

Simple solutions require dogmatic execution that allows no dissent
@UKLabour 12) if Corbyn has to be "persuaded" to see that Brexit is wrong for his voters when the evidence is everywhere, what are the chances of changing his mind when he is in power?

If Labour Leadership can be so blatantly dishonest now, what will stop them being dishonest later?
@UKLabour 13) @UKLabour members, think about this - a *democratic* leader shouldn't have to be persuaded to do the right thing, or to be honest, or to listen to the overwhelming view of his members

If that is the case he is no longer a democratic leader, he's an authoritarian
@UKLabour 14) whatever the promises of the Corbyn regime, #Brexit has shone brightly sunlight on the worrying limitations of the man & his attitudes to party democracy

You can't build on a rotten foundation. Nothing good will come of this
