So a few weeks ago, I put together this list of historians I follow on Twitter (below), but I wanted to follow up with some recommendations for places you can find historians outside this place.

First of all, there are a lot of terrific academic journals you can access online.

I'm on the board of @ModAmHist, so let me single it out for attention here: cambridge.org/core/journals/…
Second, lots of us write regularly for newspapers and magazines, providing historical context for contemporary events.

One of the best places is @madebyhistory at @PostOutlook, which is run by the trio of @pastpunditry @KathrynBrownell and @brianros1: washingtonpost.com/news/made-by-h…
Third, there are some great online sites.

You know @HC_Richardson and @rothmanistan from their work on Twitter, but check out what they and others are doing at @werehist: werehistory.org

And @myHNN is a nice roundup of various online work: historynewsnetwork.org
Fourth, lots and lots of historians with terrific podcasts.

I'd single out two:

1) Labour Leadership is lying - part 2

2) Today, Tory Fibs, a leading Labour commentator put out a summary of the Labour Brexit position. Other than a Veto on EU trade deals & no controls on state aid it reflects the position put forward by all Labour spokespeople

3) the last people to talk about Single Market "access" were Johnson, Gove & the Vote Leave campaign. It was used to lie to people, to pretend that we could get the same benefits inside as well as outside the EU

There are two aspects to this.

(mini-thread below)
The first is recognizing your own response to excess. People get desensitized when they are constantly dating. It's like with food - snack on junk and you lose the ability to taste real food. Or like scrolling a feed vs reading a book.

We don't need that many leads.
The second comes in response to the first: you begin to notice individual girls more and feel a draw to them. This is your intuition; these you approach.

My experience (and those of my clients) has been that these approaches almost always go well and lead meaningful dates.

The outrage from those that use third party clients is predictable, and in a sense justified. Justified because going way back twitter talked about the API & openness. I was there and recall thinking “🤔, this isn’t sustainable”. But also at the time, mobile platforms were uncertain—Facebook had not even pivoted yet and Twitter was a very small team leveraging the community. Plus no one argues with openness.

Why not sustainable and so tough?
