A thread of some gadgets I use (in case you are looking to buy gadgets as xmas present for someone this year): 1. The Devolo dlan for getting internet around your house without using Wifi. Uses your electrical circuits in the house to transmit electricity. 
2. Battery powered salt dispenser. Press button on top to get salt. Also has a light as salt is coming out.
Wemo power socket. Control power to your devices over the internet. Connect with ifffft to make power toggle when certain actions happen.
Nifty thing that you hang on your keys. If you press a button, your keys beep very loudly.
Fitbit with heart rate monitor, so you can monitor how fast your heart generally runs. Useful if doing sports.
Nigeria is very humid. A small dehumidifier changes the wet heat to dry. Very good for night when you have AC.
Sticker thing at the bottom of the doors. Keeps creatures and insects from moving between rooms.
Digital persona device - you can do full biometrics for yourself from home - including NYSC registration.
Satelio - you can get lots of free to air channels with a dish, and you can also subscribe for all major German tv channels.
Bedside wireless phone charger. So you can just drop your phone when about to sleep
