Given the time of year, I'm going to do a "top 10 gift list" for those that find us old blokes hard to buy for. If your Dad, Grandad or Husband is a tricky to buy for country guy, keep an eye out. There are links to everything I mention and something for every budget!
Gifts for country guys

First off, some don'ts.

Donts # 1)

Don't buy things for his hobby unless you have an exact model number. We are really particular about things and you will buy something we don't want or already have.
Don'ts #2

Just because we like, say, vintage tractors, does not mean that we like socks, pyjamas or coffee mugs with tractors on. We don't. It's twee. We are cool and macho ( in our minds). If anything is sweet, cute or adorable, we will hate it.
Don'ts #3

We are men. Getting clean is functional. We don't love shower, bath, deodorant, after shave whatever. We are men, we smell, get over it.
Don'ts #4

Tools. We generally like tools, but ask first. Unless you know all the content of our toolboxes and sheds you risk buying something we have, not something we need. Its not like buying an iron or a kettle, we LIKE tools
Okay, top 10 gifts

Gift #1

Clothes. We don't want suits or smart clothes but quality clothes for our hobby, outdoor life etc that are rugged and high quality are welcomed. Quality boots, coats, gloves

Gift #2

Booze. We like it. Give us quality over quantity and get the right type (Scotch not Gin). Find the type we like (e.g. Speyside Scotch).

Then go to a high end website and buy something that you can't find in a supermarket. Taster sets are great!

Gift #3 (Part 1)

Knives. We bloody love them. Having one does not need that we don't want another. Fixed blades only if we hunt or butcher. Non locking folding in the UK for pocket carry. Good Brands / types include Frosts Mora, Opinel (under £10), Victorinox & Wenger (1/3).
Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are a must have for men over 12 but dont get a massive one. This is my choice

An Opinel #8 is £10 and suits gardeners, shooters and anglers

For those that shoot larger game, Bushcrafters etc. Get a Mora in stainless (goes through the dishwasher when bloody) a bright colour means it doesn't get list in heather if put down temporarily

Will add more later if this is useful to anyone?
Gift #4

For smallholders, bushcrafters & farmers a headtorch is a must. Get them a great one and they will thank you. In every wet, cold, dark miserable event, you will brighten it.

Get one that uses AA batteries for long life, and major lumens.

Gift #6

Your husband, boyfriend, son likes the following:

Guns
The outdoors
Gorgeous naked women

He will deny the third, but he does. Now if you buy them all, for a fantastic cause, he is happy, you are sub zero cool and we kick cancer's arse.

Gift #7

Sweaters. You know the cutesy funny Christmas Sweaters with any characters or motifs? We absolutely detest them. Stop it! Buy us either a military "wooly pully" style jumper from @WoolOvers or, best, a submariners sweater from Silvermans!

@WoolOvers Gift #8

If your fellah is a small holder, bushcrafter, orchard grower or gardener, a silky saw is a great tool. Get the pocket boy for travel use or Gomtaro for the farm. Best prunning saws in the world, professional grade.

Gift #9

This for the awkward guy who shoots. Lets not lie. Shooting makes you deaf. Its not fun. Buy your loved one top end hearing protection. Among the very best are custom moulded in ear protection from @CENSdigital

Any shooter would adore these!

Gift #9 Part 2

The other superb option is @PeltorUK Bluetooth headphones. Audiobooks when decoying pigeons, ability to hear emergency phone calls and top end hearing protection. I and any other shooter would LOVE these (there are cheaper models too)

Tonight we were separating hens that we have sold from the roosting flock.

A task that shows how vital a head torch is for a smallholder
Gift #10

Food.

We like food. We just like bloke food. As a present, buy us all those foods you tell us not to eat for 11 months of the year!

Three suggestions follow

Meat

Cheese

Sweets (not girl chocolate, sweets)
Gift #10 part 1

Meat. Do you have an elderly male relative. Perhaps they live alone? I bought my now departed father a hamper from @MeridianMeats . Wonderful steaks from @ChasSutcliffe , dry cured bacon, lamb chops...

He LOVED it. They deliver nationwide & it can all be frozen.
Gift #10 part 2

Cheese

We love cheese. Oh and if you are a cook, make us chutney. Caramalised onion, relish, rhubarb. We love it sll.

Right Cheese. Buy us truckles . 250g is perfect

Buy "Black bomber", "Lincoln Imp" or anything from @QuickesCheese

Whole truckles are a joy!

Gift #10 part 3

Sweets.

Right, stop thinking like a girl! We want quantity. We want a whole bloody sweetshop tub of our favourites. @samanthafloren_ buys me proper, Woolworths pick & mix sweets. I love them.

Get wine gums, Haribo, toffee logs, liquorice whips. Old, cheap 😋
If the "gifts for old country blokes" thread has been of any help, do let me know. I'd be happy to do, say, a self sufficiency top 10 gifts if people find this stuff useful.
