1. Washington Post story fails to mention that per South African government’s own stats, number of attacks on South African farms, predominantly on white farmers and black farm workers, increased from 2012-2018, though number of murders *decreased* year-on-year during the period.
2. While the numbers of attacks on South African farms and related murders (both whites and blacks) are still shocking (400 attacks in 2017, 1-2 murders per week) the murder rate on farms there had declined to lowest level in 20 years, and is now at a third of the level of 1998.
3. The last South African government analysis of farm attack victims by race was conducted in 2001, the year with the highest number of attacks. That analysis found that of the 1398 people attacked on farms, 61.6% were white, 33.4% were black, and 4.4% were Asian.
