whoa jeez. The ongoing saga of my aasimar paladin, her demigod dad, her adopted-former-warlock-brother and said brother's former fiend patron took a turn for the DARK today. will share once I've re-listened to the recording and written it out for the group
Ok. Since I know the Relevant Player (who missed last week's game and this gets to be spoiler-free from Relevant Revelation until next week in character) is not on twitter and *probably* doesn't check this, I will commence to share.

This is a ride, friends. My GM is evil.
For reference the "abridged" version of the scenario, with the Revelation omitted for said player's sake, is here:

BG info:
Our pal Tranled was a warlock with the fiend patron, Lorcan. It was kinda under duress, so when my paladin, Atarah, introduced Tranled to her deity (also her demigod-dad, Summerheart/Pyrrhus) & Pyrrhus offered to be Tranled's patron instead, Tran jumped at the chance. >
Former Patron Lorcan was obv not happy about this but there wasn't much he could do except try to kill Tran. ofc the party does not allow this.

fast forward a bit, Tran has transmuted his warlock-oaths into Paladin oaths, and was formally adopted into Summerheart's family. >
Atarah gets another brother, Tranled doesn't have to look over his shoulder any more, everyone's great. Tran took the Oath of Redemption, which was maybe a bit of a stretch for him to uphold, but the entire party was willing to help him. He's an impulsive sort of character. >
Flashforward. Tranled, thru a series of miscommunications & hasty decisions, ends up breaking his oath &almost immediately getting killed. It sucked.

(detailed in this post: sktfollowthecleric.obsidianportal.com/adventure-log/… )

The party attempts a reincarnation ritual (we use Matthew Mercer's rules)>
It fails.

Tran is in the afterlife, w/Summerheart encouraging him on one side, & Lorcan on the other, taunting.

Tran runs from Lorcan and dives _through_ Summerheart, stumbling into the material plane as a Fallen Aasimar, Oathbreaker Paladin. (This was all player's choice) >
Atarah is struck with pain, and her divine magic fails her from now on.

She begins having nightmares of her father trapped in a ritual circle, in pain, being drained by smth evil.

Scrying only shows us, & asking Summerheart ?s via divination only returns cryptic 👎 answers. >
We couldn't do much about it at the time, being under a deadline to rescue the King of the Storm Giants (it's still the Storm King's Thunder campaign).

At the end of _that_ fight, tho, an ancient Kraken shows up, &, holding us all in paralysis, rifles through our minds. >
The entire party is shown Atarah's memories of her nightmares, and the memory of resurrection from Tranled's POV. We see Lorcan draining Summerheart's essence into an enchanted mirror.

We escape, and everyone needs some alone time to recover and process, gather information. >
(Atarah has been essentially a fighter, lower leveled, for the last few scenarios, devoid of her paladin magics. It sucks. She keeps instinctively trying to heal, or smite, and just gets _pain_ instead).

SO. Onto last Saturday's game:
The party, minus Tranled and Korotir because their players were absent & we sockpuppeted reasons for them to not be, end up in Silverymoon seeking answers to the runes of the ritual circle they saw in the memories.

The priestesses of Corellon, with their libraries, tell us: >
The circle is designed to remove all knowledge & essence- the psyche- from a powerful creature, separate it from its body, & place it in an object to be at the disposal of the circle's caster.

Summerheart was in this circle.

Since the reincarnation failed, the body Tran has >
It's not his. It's Summerheart's body, which Tranled inadvertently stole fleeing frm Lorcan bk to the Material Plane.

If Tran ever touches this object containing Summerheart's psyche, he will be ejected or subsumed, possibly obliterated, as body & soul reunite.

Well. Damn.>
The priestesses aren't entirely sure what would happen to Tran's spirit. It might be he ends up back where he was before he stole the body, which is: dead, between Lorcan & Summerheart.

Except that the party intends Lorcan to be very, very dead by that point.

They discuss >
possibly finding Tranled a home in an enchanted weapon, like sentient weapons of legend.

Oak, our druid, flat out refuses to attempt a resurrection or reincarnation again after it went so wrong the first time. Tranled needs to redeem himself &pass on, she believes. He needs >
to make the right choice.

Atarah insists it's his choice to make. He's still her brother. & this is a _terrible_ choice to put before him: save Summerheart &/or risk annihilation.

They're still looking for options.

They haven't told Tranled what they've found out yet. 🔚
