It's funny - I never felt particularly at home in Oz, and to be honest, while I definitely feel a strong attachment to the United Kingdom, it's never quite made me feel like I did when I lived in Germany. There was a hope and feeling of freedom I didn't have elsewhere.
I always feel a bit more alive when I'm in Germany, and I've never worked out why - even when I was working full-time in Stuttgart. Is it a cultural thing? A geographic thing? Why does the place capture me so?
I am defined by my use of words, and it's odd that I find myself most at home when I'm in a country where I'm still learning the language, and adapting to the culture. Is it because I subconsciously feel like I have the chance to start again? Anyway, I'm rambling...
