X : Can you map social capital?
Me : Maybe
X : Is that a yes or a no
Me : It's a - let's change the subject.
X : Why?
Me : Because I don't want to talk about it.
X : I thought mapping was open?
Me : It is. That doesn't mean I'm going to tell you everything.
X : I think it would be useful to add.
Me : Good. I'm still not going to tell you how.
X : This is unlike you. Why?
Me : always with the questions.
... mapping is useful for challenge, communication, learning, anticipation, scenario planning and host of other things. It also has significant defensive and offensive capabilities. There are certain aspects and certain dark arts that I keep locked away. Social capital is one.
X : I still don't understand why?
Me : Hmmm, anticipating when changes in social capital are likely to happen has nefarious uses. Stick to M&As, technology change like cloud or serverless, operating a company and that other good stuff.
X : Could you map Brexit?
Me : Jezzus. You don't give up do you. That's a maybe.
X : Have you mapped Brexit?
Me : No
X : So how do you know you can map it?
Me : Which bit of maybe do you not understand?
X : Will you map it?
Me : If I did I wouldn't share it.
X : I don't understand why not?
Me : Look, there's enough mapping out there for you to get on with. I tend to think carefully about sharing some aspects of mapping. Some parts I keep locked away. That's my choice. You don't have to use mapping. That's your choice.
