#Thread #JNU #MeToo: ICC just made sure no woman will ever find the courage to report a sexual violation to them. They said the complaint "was frivolous" and hence not proven conclusively. The story doesn't clarify whether "malicious intent" was proven. indianexpress.com/article/india/…
#JNU #sexualharassment #MeToo: In that case, here's what the POSH Act states. Malicious intent has not been proven. And the mere inability to prove the case doe NOT merit punishment as harsh as being recommended by JNU ICC.
So what are the punishment suggested? For starters she's being treated like a common criminal. Please remember this is a student we are talking about.
The ICC has recommended:
1. She should be barred from JNU campus
2. Her degree withdrawn
3. Never be employed at JNU
4. Not be allowed to enter the campus to attend any academic or non academic proceedings
5. She apologise to JNU and the defendant
6. The JNU administration shall not issue any character certificate and no objection certificate to the complainant in future.

Remember, a woman who complained of being molested, is being asked not just to apologise to the defendant but also to the entire university.
Has her complaint been proven malicious? If yes, then JNU should come out and say so. False cases derail the process of justice for all survivors of sexual abuse. But if not, and if the ICC merely failed to prove that there's a case, then the recommendations are brutal.
Trying to get in touch with the woman. Meanwhile, the kindness strangers show everyday is just ❤️ We've got each other's back.
