Important #Metoo update: Since @Chinmayi outed noted musician U Rajesh on Oct 10 for alleged sexual abuse, Abhi Arumbakkam, a UK-based Indian woman DMed to say she wrote to Milapfest to alert them of this bec Rajesh was due to play as part of Milap's Indika Tour 2018 on Oct 28.
Here are the mails exchanged, which indicate that Milap was at least aware of the allegations. As of today, they have cancelled U Rajesh's Oct 28 concert. milapfest.com/events/mfms-u-… #MeToo

Over the next few posts, in this #thread I will narrate (with express consent) the horrifying abuse of a young gay man I personally know. They have trigger warnings. Mostly silent/ignored among the storm of #MeToo are the voices from the LGBTQIA community. That stops now.
When #MeToo started, he told me he was so overwhelmed reading the experiences of women that he sat down and wrote his own in DMs to me. They haunt him every day. He is not ready to come out yet to his family. But this just broke my heart. So here goes:

Here's the thing about this kind of rhetoric from the right: the idea that their enemies are constantly "playing victim" and "faking attacks" is used to justify further actual attacks.
It's the same mindset you can see in response to #metoo posts. You get people saying things like, "Rape is horrible and I don't condone rape but this [slur] is lying to ruin a man's life and I hope she gets raped, I'd rape her if I could."

And more graphic in DMs/private.
So please don't read these denials of reality as an attempt to just downplay the violence. It's an attempt to whip up even more, by inventing yet another heinous crime to lay at the feet of the hated enemy.

This is a story about a person with power abusing that power to exploit someone with less power sexually, and retaliating when refused.
So Joseph has been sold into slavery by his brothers (v loving move there, guys) and works for Potiphar. Potiphar was a rich Egyptian, Joseph was a foreigner who was literally his property. Yes Joseph wound up with a lot of responsibility, but in context as an enslaved foreigner.
Potiphar’s wife decided she wanted him sexually, approached him repeatedly, was rebuffed. One day he fled an advance and she was left holding his garment, lied that he tried to assault her, got him thrown in jail.

A lot of feminist work involves looking at the past with the understandings you've gained in the present, and this means that it often involves adopting characteristics that women get derided for having:
To do feminist work you have to be a nag, you have to have a long memory, you have to hold grudges and not let things go until there's a real chance at justice. It means raising your standards, and having higher expectations that you used to.
