Swinging by to say with leg amputation and chemo and a vaccine (more on that in just a sec), kitty's prognosis is pretty good. It's still cancer, so hard to say for sure, but the oncologist is relatively optimistic.
About that vaccine: they can send the tumor tissue, after they remove it, to a lab where in 5-7 days, they make a custom vaccine that teaches kitty's immune system to attack that type of cancer cell. It costs $1200, which seems very reasonable. Modern medicine is amazing.
The vaccine has only been commercially available for about a year, as I understand, but the results have been very good. In most cases, it's slowed or stopped the cancer, in some cases, it's shrunk tumors, and in a few, it's eliminated it. Praise science.
My question is this: for $1200, in a week, I can get a custom-made, personalized vaccine made from my cat's own cells to help slow, shrink, or even eliminate her cancer w/out side effects. My insurance covers it at 90%. Why is my cat's healthcare better than people's healthcare?
