1/ I personally think a lot of FB's problems are due to its sheer scale, complexity, and how they are doing things no one else has tried to do before, and discovering problems and challenges as they go.
2/ They must learn quicker and do better, but i'm not of the opinion they are an evil or manipulative company at its core, or certainly no more than many others out there.
3/ They are shrewd, and savvy at what they do, and when that gets highlighted, it can be seen as devious, but i think many of the biggest names in tech have done no better or worse, to get to where they are today.
4/ Facebook has built incredible products, enabling civilisation to connect and communicate in ways we never thought possible 20 years ago. With that it has developed problems we never knew could become a problem due to the technology it has created.
5/ I'm highly critical of Facebook at times, and think they have fucked up a lot this year, and i think they have been sneaky too. BUT i also see all the good in what they have done and what more they could do.
6/ I'm not ready to quit Facebook yet, but they are testing the limits of my tolerances of acceptable behaviour for the industry their in with the resources and talent they have.
7/ I just think Zuck's ideology and addiction to his mission at (seemingly) all costs, is sometimes a dangerous thing.
8/ In regards to tech news media “picking on” Facebook.. Journalists smelling (tech co) blood and are going in for the kill.
9/ That’s the nature of journalism at times, but in fairness, Facebook has done things that I would want the media to highlight and dig into.
10/ They are (also) at times too sensational, but mostly they have reported it how it is, and Facebook has to take it on the chin and show them how they can be, and are better.
11/ I think their intentions are to reinforce the serious and fair concerns users should have about Facebook’s product(s), and they do report accurately 95% of the time...
12/ But yes, headlines are key to traffic and sometimes they can lead to more exaggerated or creative headlines to sell the story. However, that’s been the case since the beginning of time in journalism.
13/ And Facebook should expect no less. They are not being singled out. It happens on Stories you probably don’t take issue with as it’s not on your radar, so doesn’t register.
14/ I think if you’re one of the biggest tech companies in the world, this is how it is and has been for a long time. Their response should be being a better company and let actions speak for themselves.
15/ In years to come it will be another company getting this heat and they will be happy to see a rival suffering the same fate. They should not feel pissed at this.
16/ By in large, news media is not FAKE. The fake news imo, is the pushing of such a strong fake news agenda by the likes of trump..
