Ok, it must be time to finally finally finally see JC for the danger he is. Even at this late stage, and most of Labour leaning Remain, he makes it clear he would *still* pursue Brexit. theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
(When I say “finally finally finally”, I mean to those for whom JC has taken on a cult-like aura of infallibility. The rest of us have been aware of the danger for years.)
Time for another leadership challenge? Or is the sheen on his personality still so strong that he would survive it?

Imagine if Yvette Cooper were leading Labour, for instance...
Each side has its own Brexit unicorns, all equally fantastic:

Tories: WTO is no problem absolutely great; we can have a managed no deal (like being a little bit pregnant).

Labour: jobs-first Brexit, with the EU splitting the 4 freedoms they have defended like banshees to date.
Reminder: during GE2017, it was Remainers (in large numbers) who forwent the LibDems and handed Labour the spoiler role to prevent a Tory majority...

1) Why Labour #Brexit Conference policy is flawed

Unfortunately Ben is wrong here, Corbyn is following the agreed policy here because that policy let's him do exactly what he wants on Brexit, not what the members want

The policy is a well crafted stitch up
2) there's 2 consistent themes from Corbyn supporters
a) this is the policy Labour conference overwhelmingly supported
b) Corbyn's following that policy to the letter
Both of these are true, but neither stand up to critical examination if we're being honest
3) in terms of the first "this is the policy conference supported" well, as a remainer its essentially the same as the non meaningful vote May tried to create
May's choice was her deal or no. Deal which, if true, is no deal at all
It was the same with Labour conference policy

1) On the whole "Corbyn's just following Labour policy on #Brexit", a message for his supporters

No-one's buying it

When Remainers see Corbyn delaying "calls for a GE" we see a confirmed brexiter running the clock down

When the public hear Labour's 3 step policy they laugh
2) so repeating over & over "it's Labour policy, it was agreed at conference" is fine, but it won't get you any Labour converts

The public, especially Remainers, will just see #Brexit enablement
And Corbyn is well past his sell by date

And unfortunately, that's toxic for Labour
3) Corbyn will never be popular enough to win on his own terms, and will never have widespread Remain support.

So he's killing the party as well as enabling #Brexit. The longer it takes for Labour to realise this, the more damage will be done.

Here are some of the key findings from the report in slide form.
First an overview of the study itself:
Rich qualitative data (online survey & focus groups) gathered across the Central Border Region. Detailed examples & viewpoints heard from people on both sides of #border.

Respondents to the survey came from across the 8 local authority areas of the Central Border Region, moreorless equally from both sides of the border. 50/50 male/female. 80% 31-65 yrs.
There were far fewer Leave-voting respondents so they got extra attention in our analysis.

#Brexit as a concept is increasingly drifting from having anything whatsoever to do with the mechanics of leaving the EU. It is now primarily a culture war and both sides will totally ignore the details except for when they are temporarily convenient.
The consequence of this is that our future relationship with the EU will be just as readily ignored as our activities as a member. They said Brexit would make us isolated, self absorbed and insular but it seems that was always the case and there are no signs of that changing.
As ever the details will be delegated to officials and civil servants while our establishment politics drifts further into its cycle of decline, unable to usefully influence external events making us entirely passive and reactive to events rather than self-interestedly engaged.
