Making a show of quitting Facebook is indeed a performance of the privileged, but also note there *is* no quitting Facebook. If you’re on the internet, it’s essentially impossible to prevent them from creating a profile about you.
Put another way, closing your Facebook account just ends your ability to intentionally be one of the data sources for their profile about you.
(For those asking, I’m not saying not to take action. I’m only outlining the constraints of that action.)
