One of my biggest pet peeves today is the weaponized use of “conspiracy theorist” as a career-ending epithet.
Of one thing you can be certain: when it’s used by mainstream media, it’s meant to “other” a political enemy with ideas they consider dangerous; nothing more.

This topic deserves a 10k word essay treatment, and probably needs to start with the Right’s effective but messy (and ultimately problematic) response to 9/11 Truthers.
Then again, there was a whole lot of rhetorical nonsense going around at the time of the Iraq War, on both sides. Enough time has passed, perhaps, for an accounting.
