There is no "bond of trust" with the electorate, Liam Fox. People like you broke it by being dishonest with the public.

Where are the "up to 40" trade deals you promised would be "ready for one second after midnight in March 2019"?
This isn't what a "bond of trust between the electorate and parliament" looks like (2018 Ipsos MORI Veracity Index). This data, inconsistent with functioning democracy, is what you get when politicians systematically and without consequence mislead the public they exist to serve.
We only fix the "bond of trust" if we acknowledge that, whatever you get when you lie to someone, it isn't their assent. Forcing a Brexit brought with lies upon a public that no longer wants it doesn't fix the "bond of trust"; it destroys it.

There's a perfectly sensible case for a Party leader making policy from on high. But it's pretty grim watching smart folk on the Left demean themselves trying to pretend that's not what Corbyn is doing.
Question for all those folks insisting member-led democracy was served because delegates got to vote on a motion: why didn't they get to vote on whether Labour should commit to a referendum given how over 100 constituencies and at least three quarters of members wanted one?
It's a free country. Subscribe to whatever delusion makes you happy. Just don't expect anyone whose head is screwed on such that their nose and toes point in the same direction to join you in it.

Of the 1,360 odd *salaried* (ie full-time, permanent) judges in England and Wales the number who are "black or black British" is 7. That's right, about half of one percent.

Good Saturday thread. But we also need to deal with the issue of taking back control. Because, to put it bluntly, the Government's deal doesn't do that, whatever the PM says.
Citing economic damage from no-deal also doesn't work, because frankly nobody can state accurately what it will be, and if it is less growth than we'd otherwise have had, that might not be noticed. No deal feels like taking back control.
I oppose no deal because it is an unpredictable economic and potentially supply shock and I don't think it is sensible to do that with limited time to prepare and no vision beyond. But then no side has much of a vision.

1. To address a point that remainers are having fun with... the assertion that Argentina will use our #Brexit circumstances at the WTO to enhance its stake on the Falklands... is totally baloney. You know this of course, but there's a few points worth making. #Trade thread!
2. These such signals are as much for domestic consumption as anything else. This isn't the first and won't be the last. We will see a number of attempts to frustrate the UK's separation process in the hope that it will leverage concessions from the UK.
3. Some FT hack has probably already penned a poison article on how the UK will be forced to cave in because we are so weakened and feeble without the EU. As a point of fact the UK is not obliged to concede on any point at any time so long as it pays due regard to consequences.

1. A thread on #trade and aid.

One of the first tangible benefits of #Brexit I've seen is the emerging reform of @DFID_UK where it is becoming more of an arm of trade policy than a state owned humanitarian NGO. I would like that to go much further and rethink trade.
2. I do not think we should be wasting too much effort on free trade deals largely because they are of questionable value and encourage inefficient value chains. Any work on tariffs should really be reserved for multilateral activity.
3. Instead we need DfID as the spearhead of our trade policy. There is no reason why we cannot pursue humanitarian goals and enhance our trade while we are at it. For a start we can do a lot with medicines and pharmacy products.
