Alright, I'm running short on time, so this one is going to be rapid fire.

This list of "Makers to Watch" consists of people who do great work that I usually keep tabs on during the white space of my day. I follow them more passively, but still learn a ton when I pay attention.
@bentossell – Prolific maker and newly-added team member of @earnestcapital. Always building interesting things and churning out new products. Love his drive and his efficiency.
@mattragland – Matt has an awesome YouTube channel focused on productivity through bullet journaling. Not my personal cup of tea, but I still enjoy his videos and recommend his channel often.

@charliprangley – Another awesome YouTuber, this time with a focus on design, design thinking, and some travel/remote work advice. Sometimes I just watch to see the pretty stuff she makes.

@josh_earl – Expert copywriter and digital marketer, co-host of @entreprogrammer, and a growth leader at simpleprogrammer.com. Always good for an engaging story and a unique perspective.
@uibreakfast @benediktdeicke @ClaireSuellen – Love watching these three build @Userlistio in public. I also frequently refer to Jane's site for productize service inspiration and Claire shows up later in this list with another project. Thanks guys!

@jayclouse – Jay runs unrealcollective.com and publishes @upsidefm, both of which have caught my interest here in the twilight of 2018. He's also a fellow Ohioan, which always earns a few bonus points.

As promised, here comes my second list of people who create things that I get value from.

I call this one "Refreshing Voices," because they handle themselves in a way that, in my opinion, stands out from the echo chamber of business and entrepreneurship advice.
@nickd – Nick Disabato runs draft.nu and has always been a refreshingly authentic voice in my inbox. I love that his life is more than "just work," but he is still a master of his craft.

I pre-ordered Nick's new book Value-Based Design and highly recommend it.
@sol_orwell – I respect the hell out of Sol's journey building examine.com and absolutely love his personal newsletter. His advice is candid and backed by experience, which means it glows red hot on my radar. Can't wait to see what he does in 2019.

In 2019, I'm going to run an experiment related to how I consume content and who I allow to influence my perspectives on life and business.

The following thread includes lots of shoutouts to awesome people. I hope it's as helpful to you as it is for me.

Let's get into it...
First, I'm choosing just 12 people to be my "Brain Trust." I look at these people as informal mentors.

I've been following them for a while, but I want to start over as a new member of their audience and dissect how they position themselves, sell their products/services, etc.
Here they are, in no particular order...

1.) @mijustin – Justin is the brain behind megamaker.co and the MegaMaker community, which has been a HUGE value add for me. He is also a co-founder of @TransistorFM and an influential voice in the bootstrapped founder space.

Unsolicited Advice:

If your email marketing is non-existent until you want to sell something, your subscribers know – even if you disguise it as education.
Hearing crickets for months and then suddenly getting regular emails that just happen to center around a specific topic is a dead giveaway.

Burying your offer at first and then gradually ramping up the "aggression" of your sales pitch is also self-centered and obvious.
As a subscriber, it's enough to make me leave...and I'm pretty open with my inbox and attention.

There's nothing wrong with selling, but if you're not willing to establish and nurture a relationship first then it just comes off as negative: desperate, unwelcome, deceptive.

Alright... Here it is:

1. 15 years ago, Chicago.

The night before Thanksgiving.

I had just flown in for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to meet my then fiancée in her hometown and stay with her at her Mom's house.
2. Her Mom picked both of us up at the airport and INSISTED that we go to a Polish buffet for dinner. At the time, I was still a fatty so there was no reason for me to say no.

As was the custom of my people (fatties), I ate way too much food.
3. After we got back to her house at around 8 PM, it was time to grab a newspaper (there was no smart phone scrolling in those ancient of times) and adjourn to the guest bathroom for some light reading and heavy pooping.

#Khashoggi Case Thread: I am going to ‘pin’ this post to use it as an ‘Info Thread’ on the #Khashoggi Case. I am in #Turkey. I’ve been following the case closely and with access to sources & experts here. This is a very ‘sensitive’ criminal case due to ‘Diplomatic Booby Traps’!!!
The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

4 shooters entered a schoolhouse where they shot & killed the schoolmaster & killed 10 children. Only 2 kids survived.

A student, Matthew Ward, bought a self-cocking pistol in the morning, went to school and killed Schoolmaster Mr. Butler in front of his classmates for excessively punishing his brother the day before.

After school, a teacher was walking with four small children. She was approached by a Mr. Hall and shot. The Schoolmaster ran out, but she was dead instantly. Hall threw himself in front of a train.
