The reactions—inspiring! The best of America!—to the swearing-in of elected anti-Semites today was a warning to America’s Jews to pipe down and keep a bag packed. And the ADL’s participation was a clear message: you’re on your own.
And that it passes with nary a mention, well—it’s historic all right.

Yesterday my three year old son said “I’m gonna pee on you” and we laughed him off like nah don’t do that. Then he aimed and hit me square in the shoulder.

And he’ll do it again because let me tell you, I laughed so hard I nearly passed out.

I’m only human. It was hilarious.
Afterward kid goes “I told you I’d pee on you” and I was like “he’s not wrong.”

Today he threatened to do it to Bethany and she goes “you better not; I’m not your father, I won’t laugh.”

It was objectively funny tho. Like a gangster tyke. Such a boss.
Anyhoo as someone just said in my replies, one hard part of parenting is that a lot of the stuff they really shouldn’t do is also hilarious

1. The position that CNN was wrong to end Marc Lamont Hill’s contributorship over his anti-Semitism is perfectly legitimate and defensible—and is the position I tend to take on such controversies, very much including anti-Israel figures. But I disagree this time. I’ll explain why
2. There are two reasons. The first is the nature of the job. If MLH were, idk, an exec at a construction company or something, firing him over his views would be insane and cruel. But that’s not the case here—and indeed he’s not in danger of losing his day job.
3. CNN gig is the network bringing him on occasionally to opine on current affairs. His views on current affairs are riddled w/overt bigotry. I also thought Fox was right to banish its guest who made anti-Semitic comments about Soros. No reason to bring the guy back on air. None.

THREAD: I’m in Jerusalem this week for a @YadVashem seminar for journalists about the Holocaust, its legacy, and the challenges of preserving its memory. As we go, I’m going to be sharing what I’ve learned, especially things that surprised or moved me. Feel free to follow along.
In 1946, Yad Vashem was just an apartment in Jerusalem on King George St and another in Tel Aviv. The director, Holocaust survivor historian Sara Friedlander, started the archive w/ materials she brought w/ her from Hungary. She was killed in Israel’s War of Independence in 1948.
Rachel Auerbach was a member of the Warsaw Ghetto’s clandestine historical society Oneg Shabbos, which chronicled the story of its Jews. She was one of only 3 members who survived. Arriving in Israel, she founded Yad Vashem's oral history project to preserve survivor testimony.

I spent much of my teenage years reading such literature as Victor Frankl’s inspiring, life affirming, gentle & powerful account of survival and thriving from the Holocaust

These accounts display courage & deep kindness
3/. Whilst I deplore the Israeli Government’s’ actions leading to such terrible injustices in the Golan Heights and onwards I do not think for a single moment that this is the voice of the best of Judaism.

Any more than the cruel comments on @maragarethodge is the best of LP

1. What do these products have in common? They have all been certified kosher by one of the 225 kosher certification agencies in the US.
2. What is kosher? According to Orthodox Union, the world's largest kosher certification agency that certifies 70% of all kosher food, kosher means "fit to eat according to Jewish dietary law." Weird that laundry detergent & disinfectant wipes would need certification, right? 🤔
3. Currently, there are about 1.5 million products that are certified kosher. To obtain certification, manufacturers must contact a Jewish certifying agency and pay a fee for a Rabbi to fly out and inspect the ingredients, equipment, & cooking process to make sure they're kosher.
