Only requirement is that you have to write a book kids want to read. As for full time, it’s entirely dependent on whether you make enough to afford to write as your primary career.
If at all possible, have savings before you take the plunge to full-time! Publishing moves slow. If you’re hovering waiting for the next check to live on, you’re not gonna want to write, you’re gonna want to panic.
Some very good authors keep their non-writing jobs because they need stability in a volatile market. Nothing wrong with that if you can swing it.
