/ My response to Sassy's request for ideas on "unity", #StrongerTogether, & "goals". Examples are from my mentoring sessions with entry-level engineers, so full of science. I'll make them understandable.
Have questions speak up; Disagree, OK; or enhance the topics...
/ The request stems from several discussions on Twitter about Democratic candidates & elected officials. 1st we must all understand that the Democratic Party has been in existence for decades and that it is a fully operational entity with Strategic Plans, By Laws, & Procedures.
/ Anyhow, let's start with "goals". There can be no discussion about goals without an rudimentary understanding of "Strategic Planning". Strategic Planning (should) exists in all factors of our lives & society...
/ A Strat-Plan documents & describes the road-map we take as individuals, groups, companies, & nations to attain our visions. Goals fit inside of a Strategy Plan. Let me explain. A Strat-Plan is comprised of Vision, Goals, Strategies, & Objectives needed to attain a vision...
/ A vision is WHERE you want to be at point in time. E.G. weezie wants to dominate the PC business. He has a fancy named vision called, "weezie's PC vision 2025", defined as dominating all aspects of PC business (manufacture, distribution, sales without meaningful competition...
/ In order to attain the vision of PC dominance, we need goals which are the "what" needed to attain that vision. Recap. Vision is WHERE you want to be. Goals are the WHATs needed to attain that vision...
/ A word about goals that many of you should already know. Goals SHALL be SMART. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, & Time-bound. Specific=clear & succinct; Measurable=progress can be evaluated by metrics/data; Achievable=realistic within your capabilities...
/ So many of you probably realize that weezie's goal of dominating the PC Industry is unrealistic & would be rejected by any sensible investor or partner. LOL…
/ Relevant=germane & traceable within the specific initiative. As an aside, we will see later that goals are also associated with CAPABILITIES. Something that you can do. Time-bound=All goals SHALL have end dates that are within the time-frame identified in the vision...
/ Weezie must accomplish all goals by 2025. Now for strategies. Strategies are HOW we are going to achieve our goals. Strategies are THE STEPS & ACTIONS, where the Strat-plan's rubber meets the road. No more conceptualizing…
/ Strategies are the Implementation Plans for Stat-plan. Recap: A vision is WHERE you want to be; GOALS are the WHATs required to attain the Vision; and STRATEGIES are the HOW we're going to achieve goals…
/ Next are OBJECTIVES, which are the milestones or points in time used as snapshots to determine progress towards achieving goals. Objectives allow actions to be taken to ensure that we're on track to achieve our goals…
/ Final recap: Vision is WHERE you want to be; Goal are the WHATs required to attain the Vision; Strategies, are the HOWs required to achieve Goals; & Objectives, are snapshots in time, required to monitor progress towards achieving Goals & attaining the Vision...
/ Final recap: Vision is WHERE you want to be; Goals, the WHATs are required to attain the Vision; Strategies, the HOWs are required to achieve Goals; and Objectives, snapshots in time, are required to monitor progress towards achieving Goals & attaining the Vision…
/ This is a major point of conflict in Political Strategy. Many who are active in politics are unaware of Democratic Strategic Plans for sustainment of the Party. This causes great concern within the Party there is this belief that The Democratic Party is bereft of ideas…
/ Many throw out policy suggestions such as "Healthcare For All" as if that's all needed for a political party to implement it...
/ We exacerbate the problem by electing officials with no Political Science background, or experience in governance & organization models. If someone tells you that we should pursue "Healthcare For All", your first question should be;
Is that a goal, a strategy, or a what?..
/ Those working the precincts must implement platforms with these ideas. If you can't describe it beyond a sound bite, you will fail. It should be easy to see how conflicts & contention occur in the party.
Let's explore the difference between Obamacare & Healthcare for all...
/ Obamacare was a step towards making Healthcare available to all citizens by providing affordable health insurance by driving down costs through a mandate, subsidies, expanded Medicaid, and guaranteeing basic coverage to address health needs…
/ Obamacare increased the amount of citizens with health insurance and had begun to drive down health insurance costs even in the face of deliberate sabotage by Republicans and many on the Left. It didn't cover every citizen, but it was a step in the right direction…
/ O'Care was an implementation plan for "Healthcare For All". Folks were starting to have insurance allowing them to seek healthcare services. The current screaming about "Healthcare For All" comes with no strategy. How are DEMs supposed to pursue a concept?..
/ Many political activists parrot this idea without any understanding of how it could be implemented. The downside is that negative discussions about O'Care & Healthcare For All has damaged O'Care & undermined availability of health insurance for those in need of healthcare…
/ This conflict was visible in in the recent town hall with Joy Reid & Nancy Pelosi, where this topic came up. Pelosi can't give a lesson in Strat-planning on a 1 hour show with numerous questions so she had to shotgun it as has been the case since the implementation of O'Care.
/ It's imperative that each & every citizen who's politically involved becomes keenly of aware of what it takes to implement a vision. Simply shouting cool sounding concepts will not work.
Now let's take a look at "Unity & Working Together"...

Break Time!
/ Unity & #StrongerTogether. When I mentor engineers on solving problems, I teach them 1st to define the problem space. Defining the problem space "bounds" it. Attempting to solve a problem without boundaries leads you down an ever-ending rabbit hole and guarantee failure…
/ Once you define the problem space you then analyze it to determine how best to solve it. Solving a problem space involves searching for the fastest, most cost effective, & efficient solution…
/ So gather your team. Here's the kicker. You should deliberately look for team members with different perspectives. So if your problem space involves politics, you should look for partners with different perspectives. Let me explain why...
/ To test the importance of different viewpoints, always use the table approach. If you were to place 4 people at opposite ends of a table and place a number of objects on that table and ask each participant to draw what they see. You will get a set of 4 different images…
/ So which is image is correct? Neither. However, the compilation of all 4 pictures will give a more correct view of what is contained on the table. Each image represents the view of what's on the table by each participant…
/ These different viewpoints can be governed by the socio-economic backgrounds of each participant. Using members with the same socio-economic backgrounds limits the perspective of the problem solving team…
/ This is the reason I mentioned in the original thread that there really aren't truly correct or wrong answers. It is also why the U.S. has been successful over the last 100 years, regardless of what Donald Trump and his followers believe…
/ Employing different viewpoints makes for more effective solutions than single perspective 1's. When the team analyzes the problem space, there will be partial solutions that exist that could be quickly integrated into the a final solution…
/ However, there will always be a portion of the problem space that will not yield to existing solutions. That is the only component of the solution that will require the most time & effort to develop & integrate into the final solution...
/ But what we've accomplished when faced with a problem, is that a diverse team responded & solved it quickly. In the competitive commercial world this is known as "First To Market"…
/ So the importance of Unity & Working together (#StrongerTogether) results in better & faster solutions. However, DIVERSITY must be a key critical component or the solution will suffer.

So patience & acceptance of other viewpoints is critical.

Thanks!
