Hello! I'm a game developer and today I turned 45. Some say this is older than the allowed max of 25. Still making games. Still excited about the future. (self-indulgent thready-thread)
All the accomplishments that I'm most proud of happened after 35. It took time to learn. And make contacts with matching souls. Turns out the average age of a successful entrepreneur is 45? Huh.
Before 35, the rest was learning. Often horribly accidental. 3-4 careers, marooned for years in cultural wastelands. But those side paths taught me critical life skills. Met my wife. Worth it.
At this point, I'm *still* uncovering huge worlds of knowledge that deeply change how I do game design. Coop multiplayer! Trade economies! Social structures! And it is so exciting! Feels like my best work is ahead of me.
Damn. I've been so incredibly lucky. Every day, it is so obvious. There is an easily possible world where I would still be pumping gas for minimum wage along Route 1. Luck...I wish it was easier to spread that luck around.
So, here's to another year of making happiness! Big ❤️ to everyone who makes this possible. My fervent wish is that everyone who cares deeply about making better games gets the opportunity to look forward to a lifelong career doing their best.
