THREAD: Trump declaring a "National Emergency" to attempt to grab funds to build his wall would actually be a good thing. It is part of the best case path to his removal from office as quickly as possible and with as little damage as possible. /1
After declaring a National Emergency, Trump will then claim victory from his "bold action", and quite possibly agree to sign a continuing budget resolution without any funds for the wall. /2
If he does that, government will reopen, services will be restored, the good people working for the Federal Government will get paid again, and the civil court cases against Trump will move forward again. /3

By declaring a national emergency when there is no actual emergency, Trump will have taken one more significant step in pushing Republican Senators to vote to remove him from office post impeachment. /5
We know 2019 will be filled with Trump doing very bad things as he gets more and more desperate. With each horrific thing that he does, he will move Senate Republicans closer and closer to the tipping point. /6
Some of the bad things he does will have lasting and irreversible negative consequences. Some of them might cause people to die, wars to be started, businesses to be destroyed, economies to be devastated and the environment to be irrevocably harmed. /7
Other bad things that he does might have a temporary effect that can easily be reversed once he is gone. /8
But this is a bad thing he can do that will likely have no real negative effect at all. In fact, there is a good chance it will subsequently result in Congress taking further action that will prevent a President from abusing the powers of his office. /9
It is a certainly that Trump is going to do very bad and ridiculous things before the Senate is ready to remove him. The best case scenario we can hope for is that he will be removed from office before he does too many things that have irreversibly negative effects. /10-End
