OK, OK, fine, I'll live tweet the damn speech.

[Thread, he says forebodingly.]
Trump start on the expected monologue about the danger of illegal immigration, with a characteristic little troll about how Hispanics and African-Americans are among those worst affected by it.
Seems to be sticking to the script for now. It's an ugly script. But it seems disciplined and "on message," such as that message is.
The list of dangers is evocative. I think it will resonate with parts of his base.

But it's also sort of repetitive. It feels like a long list of calamities that starts to wash over you.

More discipline would, in general, help Trump. But he's much more charismatic off the cuff.
The wall, supposedly at the behest of Democrats, is now a "steel barrier."
"Federal government remains shut down for one reason and one reason only: Because Democrats will not fund border security."

If Trump hadn't gone out of his way to claim credit for the shutdown, this would be a very powerful message.

Alas, even now, for some, it probably is.
Trump claims that wall isn't immoral because "wealthy politicians" (read Obama) build big walls around their house. Says they do so not because they hate the people outside the wall, but rather because they love those inside it.
"This is a choice between right and wrong, justice and injustice. When I took the oath of office, I swore to protect our country and that is what I will always do, so help me God."
Well, that was short.
