I keep thinking about 2011. New House GOP majority.
Key member: Mick Mulvaney. What did he demand?
Cut, Cap and Balance: No debt limit hike/avoiding default without AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION with a balance budget amendment. & massive spending cuts.
He called it a "compromise."
Obama ended up cutting a deal with McConnell & co. cutting trillions in spending from the baseline over a decade to avoid a default. (Mulvaney voted no).
It's hard to imagine what the equivalent ask from Pelosi would be today?
"I'll shut down the government and default on the debt unless there is a Constitutional Amendment enacting single payer/cap and trade/overturning Citizens United/amnesty for 11 million"?

A Fox Outnumbered host just asked, twice, what if @AOC jumps into the 2020 race for president.

No one corrected her and noted she’s not old enough to run under the Constitution.
I then stopped watching Fox Outnumbered, which was on the TV in the Senate basement dining area.
The Fox host said something like, if Beto's running, why not AOC.

About 3 weeks ago Mitch McConnell got a bill through the Senate via unanimous consent that would have kept govt open through Feb. 8 while Trump negotiated w/Pelosi. McConnell could bring that bill up again but he won’t go against Trump.
So here we are.
Ways to reopen govt:
Trump Caves, signs CR, omnibus or CRomnibus
Trump Caves but declares emergency/builds wall/court fight
Pelosi Caves, fund$ wall
Pelosi Caves but attaches Dem 🥕🥕🥕 Trump agrees to sign
Negotiated deal
McConnell/McCarthy etc defy Trump
One of the ideas rejected would have been: Trump agrees to reopen government for now to set up an accelerated process for negotiations, votes on various ideas. Not quite a full cave but a reprieve.
