So the thing about Casablanca is, 1943.
They didn’t yet know who was going to win the war.
Those World War II movies are the realist.

And the question is: in this global cosmopolitan setting, is the American going to stick his neck out for something that matters, or is he going to just look out for his own interests?
Because the thing is, to preserve what is good and right in the world sometimes needs a fight.
And there are so many people, who. will blow whichever way the wind blows, and it’s only when they see someone they admire fighting, that they choose to take up the cause.

So someday you may find yourself in a moment in world history where you don’t know if the guys are going to win or lose. And you’re wondering whether or not to stick your neck out.
