1. @Gillette, a @ProcterGamble company, launched an ad yesterday taking on "toxic masculinity"

The company is positioning itself as a champion of feminism and gender equality.

It is also one of Tucker Carlson's last remaining advertisers

Schultz can't win but Schmidt can certainly make a lot of money
2. @SteveSchmidtSES has been a vocal critic of Trump. He left the Republican party to become an independent

But Schmidt is also smart enough to know he's doing a big favor to Trump

This is about money, not politics

I'll agree to do this if everyone in media who quits twitter gets an op-ed column in the NYT
There are many problems with Twitter. But the WORST argument against Twitter is that it makes people angry. A lot of good in the world happened after people got angry.

People SHOULD be angry. Pleas for people to be less angry is an argument for the status quo.

In short, men proved the Gillette ad's point on toxic masculinity🤦🏽‍♂️

Thoughts:

1/ It's always kinda sad to me that moral messaging is so linked to brands... but that's maybe a personal thing (like pads + feminism ads always make me a bit like 'huh'?)

2/ This is SUCH a great example of how a brand can use platform for good, and to BACK the values it purports to have. I tell companies this often: if you are going to say that you value diversity, or equality, or mental health for men... then put your money where your mouth is.
3/ This is a clear and marked rebrand for @gillette in particular, but I think long term it will be rewarded for the risk it is taking. It's ahead of the branding curve (i.e. I haven't seen such a strong anti-toxic-masculinity line from a traditionally masculine brand before)
