So @MPritchardUK one of the PM’s appointed trade envoys announces he will not he backing the PM’s EU Withdrawal Deal in the Meaningful Vote debate
Another MP who we have down as unknown, has told us privately he will vote No to the deal because of the lack of Murrison amendment. Blames Speaker. So numbers against PM creeping back up.
NB Pritchard is confirmed as a vote against deal not an abstention...

Can’t see how MPs can explain an abstention on a vote such as this...
Here’s my story from last month that at least a third - maybe nearly half of the PM’s network of trade envoys, the people paving the way for the new world of trade deals, are voting against the PMs Withdrawal deal... news.sky.com/story/third-of…

PM now making statement mandated by one of the many losses to a Dominic Grieve mandate...
Starts describing the meetings cross party says she regrets Corbyn refusing to meet.
“When people say rule out No Deal, what they are saying is that is we in Parliament cannot agree a deal we should revoke Article 50,” cant accept that says PM.

Accepting a second referendum will damage the union, damage social cohesion etc she tells Commons.
“I have never even considered reopening the Belfast Agreement” says the PM

Number 10 say that:

- next Tuesday’s vote on today’s motion will not be legally binding but will express will of House “this isn’t the meaningful vote or a substitute for the meaningful vote”
- if you ask me if it’s legally binding then the answer is No
Number 10 say a separate process for meaningful vote that the PM is pursuing in talks with MPs and then, essentially the Grieve process could be used to help build argument for new talks with EU which would then lead to a second meaningful vote.

My take - mid Feb. No recess.
Also “we will bring forward the meaningful vote when we believe we are in a position to get the support of Parliament”...

do not seem to be any plans to bring MV back this month.

I have no idea how they expect to get the actual Withdrawal Agreement Bill through before 29.3.

No10 says EU must decide if it will release a letter of assurances before the vote on Tuesday but EU sources tell me they are waiting for the go-ahead advice from Downing Street 1
The letter could have been released Saturday night ahead of No10 Sunday media blitz but wasn’t .. It could be released tonight or tomorrow ahead of vote .. OR EU/No10 may decide better not since 2
The EU letter will I’m told contain assurances/explanations of current deal and nothing new. The letter would come from Juncker/Tusk in Brussels and they can’t change the #Brexit deal without negotiation with and go ahead from 27 EU leaders 3

Today is another biggish Brexit day, even though all said yesterday that today’s business motion opening BIG Brexit debate is not amendable - because bunch of Tory rebels, led by former attorney general Dominic Grieve (normally sensible), are trying to amend it (see attached)...

1. A thread on #trade and aid.

One of the first tangible benefits of #Brexit I've seen is the emerging reform of @DFID_UK where it is becoming more of an arm of trade policy than a state owned humanitarian NGO. I would like that to go much further and rethink trade.
2. I do not think we should be wasting too much effort on free trade deals largely because they are of questionable value and encourage inefficient value chains. Any work on tariffs should really be reserved for multilateral activity.
3. Instead we need DfID as the spearhead of our trade policy. There is no reason why we cannot pursue humanitarian goals and enhance our trade while we are at it. For a start we can do a lot with medicines and pharmacy products.
