Are you sick of dudes like this trying to sell you fake followers via Instagram ads? Well I was too, so I went scam hunting as part of a two-week TechCrunch investigation. Ride along with me... 1/
Even worse than fake followers on Instagram are apps that charge to take over your account and mass follow/unfollow people to trick them into following you back through notification spam. So I started cataloging them... 2/
Instagram supposedly banned spammy follower-buying services & their ads, yet I found 17 of them openly advertising on the app. Some said they paid Instagram $500/day. Unacceptable. 3/
In response to my investigation, Instagram blocked all 17 services from buying ads & banned some of their accounts. But why did it need to outsource this moderation to a journalist? 4/
Social networks fail to reinvest their huge profits into moderation. They're too dependent on tech solutions and don't hire enough humans. It took me just a few minutes to find 5 more spammers selling Insta followers. 5/

Real apologies offer acknowledgement, remorse, and retribution. But tech CEOs' hands are tied by business models that depend on data grabbing, distraction, moral compromises & planned obsolescence. Sorry rings hollow without change. So can't users just leave?... 2/
We're too addicted to convenience to vote with our feet against exploitative tech companies, and winner-take-all markets leave us few viable alternatives. Fb keeps growing. We've proven we can harbor ill will while still buying & using their products. So will gov save us?... 3/

@candid_bandit Hillary/Obama sold Israel to Iran and got the Russians to help Iran because it would go against American Foreign Policy. They wanted Iran to nuke Israel. Somebody talked about this recently? We wonder who that could be? Universal moral code is to base on compassion and evidence.
@candid_bandit However the Russians did not want nuclear war between Iran and Israel, so Russia used their blackmail on 44/CF to manipulate every foreign policy decision made. In exchange, Russia gained power over key areas the West won from the Soviet Union. This made Russia stronger.
@candid_bandit They have no interest in nuclear war, however they do have interest in playing games with Foreign Policy to the betterment of their agenda. Players on both sides. Impartial because it is not National Security but rather National Interest.

I've been thinking a lot about #LaraAlqasem today, because I realized we aren't that different. I was in Students for Justice in Palestine, then studied abroad at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I got my student visa with no problem, entered with no problem.
I wonder if I would be able to repeat this today. There was no Canary Mission back then, as far as I know, and BDS was in its infancy. I went from SJP, taking part in Israel apartheid week and helping organize a Palestinian cultural event, to Hebrew U.
And I didn't just go from SJP to Hebrew U, I eventually ended up at an internship for, wait for it, The Israel Project. I lived in Israel, traveled up and down it, all around the West Bank. I lived and learned. Why shouldn't #LaraAlqasem have the same chance?

1- Let’s talk about #porn, #sex and #Twitter
I don’t have a problem per se with porn (big fan of #Pornhub here) or any adult jobs as long as (I can’t stress this enough) is consented between two/more adults and nobody is forced and/or coerced into it against his or her will.
2-But #Twitter has a #porn problem.

(Don’t go harassing any of those accounts. There are thousands like them, and this is just for the purpose of making a point, not to single anybody out)
