Reminder: The result of the Brexit referendum doesn't change Brexit itself. You can't vote to win the lottery. You can't vote for your team to win the football. You can't vote for Brexit to be a success. Cause and effect don't work like that.
So while Theresa May may be a damp squib of a negotiator, a better negotiator couldn't have got a dramatically better deal because the fundamental facts of Brexit (rules of the EU, functioning of the WTO, essential need for EU workforce in many sectors, etc.) preclude it.
We might have got where we are quicker and more decisively. We might have settled on a different flavour of Brexit. But no negotiator, no matter how gifted, would have been able to supply the (different) unicorns that the ERG and Labour's Brexit plans depend on.
In other words, if your Brexit plan is unachievable because reality won't allow for it, your plan is wrong, not reality!
(I actually think that TM's plan makes a pretty good fist of Brexit. Problem is, Brexit itself is rubbish.)
