A thing I want to note here: Whitaker's wife says the Mueller investigation is "by all accounts... wrapping up." That's arguably newsworthy, given who she is, but crucially we don't know if any of the "accounts" she's relying on are new or insider info.
Marci Whitaker could, plausibly and without misleading anyone, be repeating the existing, opaquely-sourced, published news accounts that indicate the Mueller probe is near finishing. And by virtue of her close ties to the DOJ, she may create another story to the same effect.
My suspicion is that sort of interaction may be how this same story keeps washing through the news month after month with seemingly greater authority each time. We don't actually know whether the highly placed sources know whereof they speak.
