This thread is my take on the JTBD article by @jmspool. He is right that #JTBD is not a design tool.
I have had clients use JTBD insights to reduce cost per acquisition by 50%.
I have had clients use JTBD insights to find new markets for their existing products, and find new product opportunities for their existing markets.
I’ve had a client talk on the record about how he used JTBD insight and thinking to overhaul how they manage their organization.
UX designers may or may not find JTBD useful (though @Designamyte might have something to say about that). That’s ok. Accountants, auditors, physicians, race car drivers, dog walkers, and back office developers will also get along just fine without JTBD.
I think you will find JTBD helpful if you are an executive, marketer, product leader or if you have responsibility for growth, product strategy, or new product development.
