The situation in WI is straight out of Levitsky & @dziblatt's How Democracies Die. We rely on norms of mutual toleration and forbearance to ensure the peaceful transfer of power. Violating that compact undermines democracy.
As with Trump, most elite Rs nationwide aren't speaking up in favor of these dangerous norm violations, but they're not willing to break from their party to condemn them either. And so we get a kind of tacit acceptance.
Scholars of democratic erosion know how dangerous this situation can be. Will Rs in other states do the same? Will Ds adopt similar tactics? Will GOP base come to demand a similar approach in future? Once partisan goals trump democratic commitments, everything is on the table.

The peaceful transfer of power is the core of democracy. The losing side stripping powers from the winning side undermines that compact.
States are serving as laboratories of democratic erosion. Extremely worrisome.

Buzzfeed news also report, citing ‘sources’, that President Trump, along with his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., received regular, detailed updates about the Moscow/Trump Tower project from Cohen, even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russia.
INFO: When Cohen pleaded guilty to the supposed crime of arranging several Non-disclosure agreements (NDA’s), he said he did those at the direction of Trump. When he pleaded guilty to lying to Congress, he said he did it out of loyalty to Trump, not at his direction.
