#breaking Diplomats from the United States and North Korea will meet for talks today in Stockholm hosted by the Swedish Foreign Ministry, a diplomatic source with close knowledge of the meetings tells CNN.
The talks will focus on the way forward, following up on last summer’s summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, and also on the recently announced upcoming second summit between them, the source added.
While the US State Department on Friday described the talks – expected to last until Monday – as “an international conference,” a press officer at the Swedish Foreign Ministry characterized them to CNN as “small-format roundtable discussions with a group of international experts”
The US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen E. Biegun will meet with North Korea’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Choe Son Hui and Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom. The South Korean Foreign Ministry’s nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon is also in Stockholm for talks.
