This seems to be pretty strong evidence that the #FirstStepAct will positively impact racial disparities 1) Fair Sentencing Act retroactivity
2. Risk and Needs Assessment #FirstStepAct
3. Good Time Credits
I understand the argument on Risk and Needs Assessment is that it will overvalue white folks over black folks, and I have addressed that previously - but the other two categories, by definition, have to reduce disparities #FirstStepAct medium.com/@ypsifactj/fir…

Every person who knows someone in prison should discontinue subscribing to your publication.

Your argument: b/c the government can't pass a budget people in prisons should not get one of their ONLY special meals of the year

CO's can eat out 365 days a year - We are NOT PROPS
Other problems:

1. Did they interview ONE former or current prisoner about the state or food or about the importance of special meals - EVEN ONE?

2. Why is @USATODAY carrying water for this Correctional Officers Union uncritically @glennEmartin @JustLeadersUSA @ShakaSenghor
Another way to put how gross this article was ..

What GOOD would have come from denying people in prison their special meal?

How would that have helped the correctional officer get paid OR made the prison better off?

An easy breakdown of why Tom Cotton is not only WRONG but Dangerously WRONG on the #FirstStepAct

1. The act is modeled after state reform that reduced recidivism. IE He is PREVENTING a bill that REDUCES crime and INCREASES public safety pewtrusts.org/en/research-an…
2. Mr. Cotton likes to use scare-tactics, he says the #FirstStepAct will let "SCARY PEOPLE OUT"

But, these people will GET OUT ANYWAY, the question is HOW not IF they will return. Mr. Cotton is supporting "scary people" returning With NO programming nationalreview.com/2018/11/the-tr…
3. In fact, for the people Mr. Cotton likes to fear-monger the most - remaining in prison WITHOUT PROGRAMMING is an INCUBATOR for RECIDIVISM. Again, Mr. Cotton is arguing, in essence, for MORE crime not less when he opposes the #FirstStepAct on these grounds

A reminder, Virtually EVERY terrible law that created Mass Incarceration (including the 1994 Crime Bill) was preceded by a period of massive public outrage....often around horrific crimes.

A reminder, SINGLE CASE LAW almost always ends up being AWFUL and haunts us for DECADES
Yesterday POTUS asked for a "tougher" Death Penalty...don't be fooled, what he was asking for was two-fold

1) More use of the DP (it is dying quickly in the status quo)
2) More BRUTAL public use of the DP (he believes in public hangings etc. which he thinks will deter)
But Mass Incarceration was built on public outrage used to generate a patchwork of TERRIBLE laws

We are reversing mass incarceration, public anger can EASILY re-create it, remember crime rate & violent crime rate are as LOW as they have been since 1967 (see Uniform Crime Report)

For my part, my analysis relied on a plain reading of the EU's Brexit Preparatory Notices.

These are official communications the EU Commission put out, formally advising business of what to accept.
3/ Now, you could accept that we've interpreted the documents correctly but still reject that what's in those documents will actually come to pass or be enforced.

There are a number of ways you could arrive at that position in good faith. Let's discuss them.

Dutch Government official advice to its business community warns its manufacturers “if a large part of your product consists of parts from the UK” they may lose free trade terms for exports.

“After Brexit, parts made in UK no longer count towards this minimum production in EU”
The Government would argue that this is premature, but the likes of the Dutch are already advising their manufacturers to reduce dependence on UK:
“Trade with the UK will become more difficult after Brexit... consider looking for alternatives”
