Ford is right, his government has done more in the last 6 months than most. So, to celebrate, I thought we'd break down some of his "accomplishments." Are you ready? An #onpoli THREAD: (1/)
Lets start with Bill 47, the Making Ontario Open For Business Act. Ford has successfully gutted workers rights, given more power to corporations and the rich/powerful in Ontario, and prevented a crucially important $1 an hour wage increase from taking place. (2/)
The now famous Bill 5, of course, slashed #topoli's control over its own municipal elections, while also changing elected positions across the province to positions that Ford can appoint his buddies and campaign donors to. (3/)
While he ended up not having to use it, let us not forget that @fordnation called the Legislature back at midnight on a Sunday solely to remove our constitutional rights when a court decision didn't go his way. (4/)
After promising during the campaign to protect the Greenbelt, Ford's government has already suggested that municipalities be allowed to remove anti-development zoning if they choose, essentially gutting one of our provinces most important environmental assets. (5/)
That's not where Ford's environmental carnage ends: last week Ford announced his plans to completely re-design the Endangered Species Act, leaving activists fearful that he will gut the important protections. (6/)
Ford's government recently decided to go after Local Integrated Health Networks, removing funding for the programs that provide thousands of Ontarians the health services they need. (7/)
Just last week, Ford announced that he would be removing funding from the Trillium Grant program, and the @tdsb's after school community programs, both of which protect vulnerable and at-risk youth in the province. (8/)
Not all of @fordnation's "accomplishments" have been legislative. He is also redefining #onpoli norms by appointing his friends to important positions, like Tavaneer, and by selling assets, like The Hearn, to his campaign donors. (9/)
A lot of Ford's wrath has focused on #topoli specifically. Ford is seeking more control over land and governance in Toronto, like uploading the TTC or redeveloping Ontario Place. With that in mind, @JoshMatlow's City Charter Motion looks more and more important every day. (10/)
And then of course there is Ford's most recent "accomplishment." Gutting student democracy, #OSAP, and university funding. These cuts will put students at risk. Luckily, great student organizers like @TheStudentsON are fighting back. (11/)
When Ford says his government has accomplished a lot in 6 months, he is right. But accomplishing his ideological agenda has caused Ontario irreparable harm. They are trying to wear us down, and we must stay strong on each and every issue. (12/)
I have to get back to focusing on my education, but this is by no means an exhaustive list of the negative things @fordnation has already done. Feel free to use the replies to share anything that I forgot, or to suggest resources for resistance. (13/13) #onpoli #ForThePeople
Adding a few because I was foolish to forget and @KristenKP43 reminded me! Ford has cut hundreds of millions of dollars from Mental Health funding across the province, while presenting such cuts as an "increase." @celliottability has lead the charge here.
Christine Elliot and Doug Ford have also teamed up to harm Ontario's Safe Injection Site programs, leaving at-risk people vulnerable at the peak of our worst public health crisis in decades.
Ford has also cut funding from woman's rights programs, attacked unions, and much more. All this before his first budget. He preys upon the most vulnerable in society because he thinks they will offer the least resistance. Let's prove him wrong. #onpoli
Adding this to the thread, from @PatMTO: Ford's government is slashing Ontario's sex ed curriculum to a curriculum that has been out of date for decades. Written before social media even existed, Ford's suggested replacement will harm Ontario's students.
Oh! Ford has also scrapped Cap and Trade, and will spend taxpayers money fighting a case against the Federal government on the carbon tax. It's a case all leading experts say he will lose, and even if he does win it will harm us even further.
And as @edwinhotchkiss reminds us, Ford has also slashed Francophone services in Eastern Ontario, in terms of health, education, culture and more.
A new addition from @Norsunenergy: the hundreds of millions that Ontario Taxpayers had to foot the bill for as a result of @fordnation's excessive political meddling with Hydro One.
And the Basic Income pilot! How could I have forgotten. Thanks to @AdamoHarrison for the reminder. Check out @humansbasic for their great work on this file. #onpoli #UBI
I accidentally messed up the thread earlier so I’m now giving another call for people to follow/share the great work being done at @TheStudentsON. #DefendOSAP
Speaking of @TheStudentsON, they have now announced their province wide protest, to take place on February 4th across the province and the country. If you are angry about the things I detailed in this thread, join them in resistance. Find out more here:
