If anything good has come from Brexit, it's been journalists trying to find ways of making parliamentary procedure and trade law more arresting
That's not a small thing really. It's key to the whole fight against populism. The new political movements succeed by pretending that complicated things are actually simple.
You fight back by presenting complicated things in a comprehensible and, at best, entertaining way.
But I think there are questions there for political institutions too. Parliamentary procedure is fully understood by, quite literally, about 50 people. The EU is so complex and boring no-one in their right mind can follow it.
That's unacceptable on its own terms. Politics should be comprehensible. If it isn't, don't be surprised when reactionaries misrepresent it.
