Thing is, Theresa May isn't close to winning a Commons majority for her Brexit deal. Because getting it passed in this way means the deal ceases to exist. thesun.co.uk/news/brexit/82…
The same basic principle applies: without a backstop, there's no deal. With a backstop, there's no Commons majority.
And that dynamic, in technical speak, means you're proper twated.

So May is now whipping her MPs to undermine her own deal. And looks set to lose anyway.
And the Labour leadership looks set to deny support to an amendment which does exactly what it demanded the prime minister do last week.
This is a historic period of failure for politicians. I've never seen such a shower in my fucking life.

Imagine that this letter had been published in response to one of the party's policies at any other point in our lifetime. It would have been the end of them.
What exactly is the no-deal Brexiters' response? That the chief execs of Asda, M&S and McDonald's are in a conspiracy against the referendum? That they are inventing lies about storage space and just-in-time production to undermine the will of the people?
Is it too optimistic to think that we might just take stock, for one moment, look at what is happening and accept that this is an insane way to behave.

We are working our way through the Die Hard movies again, which, btw, is fucking joyous. 2 obviously much worse than 1. However: the terrorist plan does actually make sense in 2. I'm not sure it does in 1.
So they use the explosives to get in the safe. Knick the bonds. Then herd the hostages to the roof. What is the plan then? To blow up the building? With or without the hostages?
If with, they're going to put them all on helicopters which weren't provided and then do what? Take them to LAX and start negotiating again?

So the ticklish moment awaits.

Consistent with @tombradby am told #Brexit Withdrawal Agreement texts were in London overnight, came back to Brussels this morning. That they are not finally closed, but the EU is "waiting for verdict" to decide next steps. /1

Fascinating poll which reveals 66% of Leave Voters are uninterested in exactly how we leave the EU, they just want to leave. This brings into question - exactly *what* are we achieving pushing for Brexit?

2) the main point here is that only 1/6 of the country, at most, actually care whether we leave on WTO terms or Norway+Single Market or anything in between. The rest either want to Remain or are uninterested in the details of leaving. This leads to several conclusions
3) Firstly, no-one, least of all Rees-Mogg & the ERG, speaks for everyone or even a majority of Leavers.

When various right wing commentators say "give us the #Brexit we voted for" or push for no deal, they speak for almost no-one but themselves

1. There's a subtle shift in tone from the ultras this morning who are now pushing for a Canada+ agreement. That + is going to have to do a lot of work because we'd still be subject to third country controls thus having a similarly damaging effect to no deal #Brexit.
2. Again the Brexiters are ducking the issue that to have frictionless trade you need full regulatory harmonisation. If we don't have that then Mrs May will have to sign the NI backstop. Chequers is an attempt to fudge this question but it is at least a nod to reality.
3. Mrs May has attempted to bridge the unbridgeable divide. Chequers is an attempt at regulatory alignment while maintaining a level of regulatory sovereignty - which is tolerable but not to the EU. They won't go for it.
