This is hilarious. I know it's produced by a fan of Peterson to emphasise the importance of context, a common defence for his authoritarian views. But the idea of just letting him argue with himself makes me smile ->
if it's not obvious, I oppose that current cosy triumvirate of authoritarianism (Peterson etc), Identity (Alt Right etc) and Neoliberalism (Ayn Rand etc) as much as I oppose Marxism. These are both extremes we should avoid in my view.
X : Why Peterson?
Me : Defensive use of "questioning" to spread insidious messages e.g. "Do feminists avoid criticizing Islam because they unconsciously long for masculine dominance?" conveys a message (feminists avoid ...) under a defence of "only a question" etc. Atrocious.
I.e. it's one part dog whistle to an extreme view, whilst on the other it makes a statement of supposed "fact" that often goes unchallenged "feminists avoid challenging Islam" under cover of a question that is designed to provoke i.e. "unconsciously long for" ...
... repeat it enough and with cascade effects it becomes "truth". This is why critical challenge and questioning are so important in an onslaught of such linguistic tricks.
X : Why do you put neoliberalism with identity / authoritarianism?
Me : It's just an unfortunate triumvirate. I do consider all those views as with Marxism / revolutionary communism to be potential security threats and certainly worthy of keeping a close eye on.
X : You believe neoliberalism is a security threat?
Me : Yes. This unbridled belief in the market, the diminishment of Government's role and the corresponding gross inequality go hand in hand leading to an unstable system. I consider that a security threat to the nation.
There are many types of security threat, some are direct physical action, some political (e.g. groups like national identity) and some are economic (e.g. specific corporations, ideologies) which themselves have profound long term negative effects.
I have no issue with the Gov monitoring such groups, in fact I'd argue it should if it wasn't already.
This is also why I'm not pleased with the watering down / removal of financial terrorism from the TA 2000. There are many dangerous groups and some wear suits and use powerpoint presentations.
