Worth explaining. Why is shaking up the negotiation team problematic - even though I highly respect the WTO / trade expertise of the two new negotiators. (Short thread)
1) We are speaking of bringing in new negotiators after two years of negotiation. And given their profile likely not in an all that subordinate role. Hundreds of proposals have been discussed and dismissed at the table. By both sides.
Besides the near impossible task of studying up on that - not all of it will be reflected in the confidential minutes.
2) We are actually in a post- negotiation phase. One of the essential skills now needed is navigating the EU. Commission, Council, Member States - what leeway is there? How can it be enlarged.
Navigating the WTO is different.
