Long post coming with respect to race, concert bookings, and public permits at @fenwaypark
With today’s announcement of another Zac Brown Band show at Fenway Park, it’s time to start talking about concert booking, race, and public permits in the City of Boston.
There have been approximately 60 concerts performed at Fenway park since they began hosting them in 2003.
In 66 events, there has been one non-white headliner (Jay-Z). The only time there was a non-white headliner, he co-headlined with a white guy (Justin Timberlake). Fenway Park is required to seek public permits from the city of Boston to host these concerts.
Hosting one (or one half) of a concert by a non-white performer over the course of sixteen years on public permits is discrimination of the most blatant kind.
It’s not just on the city. It’s on the Red Sox. It’s on the artists like Zak Brown Band, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Phish, and Billy Joel to at least acknowledge that this is happening in Boston.
Entirely white performers at every show at Fenway Park don’t represent the Red Sox and they don’t represent Boston. The citizens of Boston deserve better than this bad look.

Do better @RedSox
