Here's a Pew report about skilled immigration!

pewglobal.org/2019/01/22/maj…
Most Americans support high-skilled immigration. But Sweden, the UK, Canada, German, and Australia are even more supportive.
Even among Americans who say they want fewer immigrants overall, most say they want high-skilled immigrants (but TBH I don't really believe them; many may not realize that most high-skilled immigrants aren't white).
The U.S. has a much higher NUMBER of high-skilled immigrants than other countries, but not a very high PERCENTAGE of high-skilled immigrants relative to countries like Canada, Australia, and the UK.
But I should point out that this is referring to the STOCK of immigrants.

In terms of the FLOW of immigrants - i.e. who is actually coming into the U.S. each year - we now have a much higher percentage of high-skilled immigrants than we did 10 or 20 years ago.
Most of our high-skilled immigration comes from Asia and Africa.

Adopting a points-based immigration system like Canada's would help us attract more high-skilled immmigrants.
