21 Lessons My Mentor Taught Me (continued!)

Day 2, Lesson 2: Never Sell What You Will Never Buy

Let's go!
So one time, I went to my mentor, Dr. Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase and asked he was help me refine an idea for an info product I had.

An info product is specialized information you sell in the form of a print book/manual, ebook, audio, video course/webinar or coaching/training program.
The product was about earning money sharing files on the internet.

Back then sites like Filesharez.com, MegaUpload.com, DepositFiles.com etc were rampart all over the internet.

And you could probably download anything you wanted so long as you had ...
the correct link. But the main story is people were getting paid by the owners of these sites to share these links. In turn, they placed adverts on the download pages and made 100s of millions.

My friend, Kim Dotcom, founder of MegaUpload.com (now seized by the FBI)...
made hundreds of millions off this business model.)

Here's how it works.

1. Let's say you by an e-book, titled "Pregnancy Miracle" off Clickbank.

2. You then create and account on and upload it on DepositFIles.com who will give a link for it.

3. You then share that ...
link via your blog if you get traffic and also via the numerous available Filesharing forums.

4. People who want to own a copy of "Pregnancy Miracles" will search Google or filesharing forums and if they see your link, they can then download it.

5. DepositFiles will then...
pay you something like $2 for every 1,000 downloads.

So I put together an e-book of how to do this process and that day I was with Dr. Ojeagbase discussing it with him.

And he asked me...

Dr. SOOJ: How does this thing work, Ronald?
Ronald: *explains it*

Dr. SOOJ: So basically, you want to teach people how to download other people's product for free and then go ahead to make some money with it.

That's wrong you know. But let's leave that alone for a moment. We'll get back to it.
How much can someone make realistically in one month with this?

Ronald: If they get 1,000 downloads per day, they will make $60 a month.

Dr. SOOJ: How much is $60 per month in Nigeria?

Ronald: *brings out phone and calculates. The dollar was about =N=120 then.*
They will make =N=7,200 a month Sir.

Dr. SOOJ: =N=7,200 a month. If you want to be rich or at least make enough money to be comfortable, would you buy any info that it's promise is to make you only =N=7,200 a month?
Ronald: No Sir. I won't.

Dr. SOOJ: So why are you selling something to people that you yourself will refuse to buy?

Ronald *bows head in shame*

There and then, my folly was exposed to me. I could see it as clear as day as I learn another lesson. A lesson that has come to be...
the cornerstone of any business idea I agree to get involved with today.

NEVER SELL WHAT YOU WOULD NOT BUY YOURSELF.

I have business ideas brought to me almost DAILY. They bring them to me because "you have an audeince".

Some for me, some for my clients. They range...
from obvious scams to the insane unworkable ones, right on some good ones.

I have been asked to promote a Wonder Bank and I turned it down. I was invited to join MMM before almost nary a soul heard of it with the offer to make me a "guider" right off the bat. I turned it down.
In our marketing agency, we have been asked to market products and services we do not believe in, for huge fees and and we said, "No".

Because each time, my mind flashes back to that conversation with Dr. Ojeagbase and I hear his voice asking, "Why are you selling something...
to people that you yourself do not believe in and will not buy?"

When you try to sell something you violate something inside you and place in your path, mental obstacles in the selling process, making it hard to effectively sell it.

I believe your conscience is as rotten as...
gutter if you proudly sell stuff to people that will hurt them rather than help them.

No matter what, resist the temptation to do it. Flee from it. It will bite you in the ass, sooner or later.

When I teach people, I always ask them, "have you tried this yourself before?
Or, "do you know someone who has tried/used it before and it worked for them? How many people?"

Then I watch and listen to them for answers. When they respond, I know if they're lying or telling the truth. If they're lying I don't work with them. I will not create marketing...
or work with anyone who does not believe in their product/service 100%, moreso people lying about their product/service's efficacy/utility.

That's maybe one of the best lessons my mentor taught me.

I hope you enjoyed this.
