Mitch McConnell on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act: “This legislation ought to be the very definition of something that receives unanimous consent. It would ensure all baby girls&boys who are born alive have their right to life respected.”
BTW — the Democrats are currently blocking the move by Republicans to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Speaking on the floor of the Senate, @BenSasse says that if the move for unanimous consent continues to be blocked then he will fight for a roll call vote.
There’s currently an absence of a quorum so there is a pause in the proceedings — let me go back and provide some quotes from the Senate floor speeches that have been given so far relating to the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
.@BenSasse: “100 Senators have the opportunity to unanimously say the most basic thing imaginable — that it’s wrong to kill a little newborn baby — ...and to stand for belief that we’re all created equal, b/c if equality means anything, surely it means that infanticide is wrong.”
Democrat @PattyMurray objected to unanimous consent on Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, saying the bill isn’t needed. @BenSasse said the bill should be passed, especially in response to what’s happened in NY & Virginia, repeating this is about stopping infanticide.
.@SenJoniErnst: "We have witnessed the ugly truth about the far-reaching grasp of the abortion industry & its increasingly radicalized agenda... Somehow the conversation has devolved so completely that a bill prohibiting infanticide has been blocked on the floor of the Senate."
.@HawleyMO: "It's hard to imagine this legislation is even necessary... When every day... brings new revelations about the wonders of human life. It's hard to fathom the extemism of politicians... who'd deny protections of the law to the most vulnerable members of our society."
.@SenatorLankford: "This body will do a unanimous consent to congratulate the New England Patriots for winning the Super Bowl... For some reason the Patriots are non-controversial but the death of children at their delivery is controversial enough that Democrats are blocking it."
Anyway the Senate is done for tonight. Democrats blocked unanimous consent on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and this is done for now. The fight will continue another day.
